3'rd anniversary

Yesterday was Janey and my 3'rd anniversary of our wedding (a.k.a. the hottest day in the history of Walnut Creek, CA.)

While I didn't get pics of the dinner we made for ourselves, I did catch the cake right after it was frosted!!! Also the cards we gave each other.

3 years. Geeze I love this chick!

Protecting the inside line.

He dives for the inside line...

Passed them, but gotta head into the pits.

More on the Yard O' Bricks.

Schumi's garage. We found out later that we weren't supposed to be in this part of the pits, so I have photos that others couldn't get.

World famous Gasoline Alley. Too bad it was fenced off. I wanted to see who had offices here.

Gotta have an artsy fartsy pic.

Well, we've done it...

We just purchased our first new car together. Given our proclivity for naming cars, this one is called "Widget".

2 posts in 2 days, holy crap!

Well, back again for another rant...

Why is it that people cannot respect other people's stuff? Wheather it be their car, their house, or even their lawn that they have spent years perfecting. If I was retired and had spent massive amounts of time on my lawn. Trimming it, making sure my lawn mower had a sharp blade so it would be cut very evenly, fertilizing it, all for the sake of making look as good as possible, and then some da,mn kid goes walking across it over the course of months/years...... Ok, here is what was reported to the news. What was not made mention of in the radio broadcasts, TV broadcasts was this. This kid has been vandelizing this old guy's lawn for years. He has made police reports, asked the kid not to go across his lawn, and generaly been nice about things (Never had any sort of criminal record). The kid has been a little shit and has been getting all of his friends to harass the old guy. He has been threatening the old guy and has been a general miscreant. The neighbors have all describing the kid as "A good boy". But, wasn't Jeffery Dalmer also described the same way??? The old guy finally got frustrated enough and shot the little shit. Two Times. In the Chest. Let's see. Un-authorized tresspassing, harassment, threatening behaviour. I hope he had threatened to kill the old guy, because that would make the guy be able to "Fear for his life".

How hard is it to RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE'S STUFF???

More "Nanny State" ranting

Oh, almighty government, protect us from stuff the big bad world out there. Keep us ignorant and helpless../.

Slashdot article here.

Lately it seems that I onmly post when I want to rant about shit. This is the latest. Australia (The land originally invaded by criminals and the unwanted from England has decided that they need to protect themselves from PORN! Oh my dog! The Labor Party has said that if they get control of the parlement, then they will enact laws that would require ISPs to filter out Porn and Violent content. Lets see, the multi billion dollar Porn industry is going to just sit back and not try to get around this filtering by changing how their websites work. They claim that they are doing this because the parents lack the know-how to install content filtering software on their PCs. Lets see, force the ISPs to protect the people who are too damn lazy to check up on their kids to see what kind of smut they are looking up today. Here's a fricken solution. If you are that stupid that you cannot install some of the easiest software in the world to install (Net Nanny, CyberSitter, etc...) then pay the teenager down the street $20 to install it. If you still are too stupid to do this, then put your PC in the livingroom! Don't let the kids on it unless you can supervise them! For dog's sake, don't give them a PC in their own rooms because they WILL find porn. Talk to your kids. Take interest in your own damn kids!

Interesting phone calls.

So, Janey and I got home today and the phone was ringing. I answered it and was subjected to a very interesting automated call. The "One Man, One Woman" group has a 3 minute telephone call going out to different areas. I hope that their calling computer has limited capacity and by me listening to the entire call it reduced the number of other people that it annoys. They claim that by allowing same-sex marriages, we are doing away with hetero marriages. The spokesperson that recorded the message kept using "God Ordained Marriage between a man and a woman." While I do feel that marriage is being cheapened in this country, I feel that it is more due to the 15minute marriages that we hear about (Paging M(r)s. Spears) rather than 2 people who love each other and fight to get married who happen to be of the same gender. I would rather see 2 people who are kind and loving to each other be married than some low-life who is going to beat his wife/her husband meet up and get hitched.

So, as I waited out this 3 minutes of hate-speach, I did so thinking that I would be able to vote no. I desperately wanted a part of the call where I could leave a message. In vain, I know, but I wanted the chance. At the very least, this was 3 minutes of tieing up one of their lines so it could not make another call to another household.

People who would be part of a gay marriage, would not get married otherwise. So, Gay marriage = more marriage. Increasing the sanctity of marriage in my book. People no longer HAVE to live with each other out of wedlock. They CAN get married. To say that keeping a lid on gay marriage will reduce the number of gay couples is just sticking your head in the sand. People will live a life that makes them happy (or at least gives them a chance to try to be happy).

I can't wait until the Libertarians finally bring a candidate who has a chance. I am sick and damn tired of the Religious Right and the Loony Left getting into it with each other. Where can a Financial Conservative/Social Liberal go?

It's been a while...

But I was told to post something, or I would forget how.

Janey and I just watched football on TV... Something I thought I would never get into. Now I know why. The Bengals (We do live in Cincy after all) were playing in a playoff game. It all started out with the Bengals quickly putting up some points, then running up the lead to 17-7 against Pittsburgh. This was cool. Then halfway through the second quarter, they stopped playing. Pretty soon, the Steelers had racked up quite a few more points. Janey and I had this on TiVo, so I watched an episode of Warren Miller TV and the day's recaps of the Dakar 2006 Rally on OLN, then we went back to the game. We were about 40 minutes behind so we could skip through the talking and commercials. We only really watched that much of it so we could see how annoying it all was. We were skipping through and with 7 minutes left in the 4'th, we just started skipping around to see the Steelers score another one... It was all very sad. Probably won't be watching another game until the stoopid bowl.

Sight-seeing up the Ohio...

Then we went on a bit of a sightseeing cruise up the Ohio River.

We got to see the underside of the Purple People Bridge

and the "Big Mac"

More Visitors!!!

Seems this is the standard way we see Karyna these days.

We have had some more visitors!!! Kat was out working and came up for dinner one evening, and...

Grandma and Grandpa A drove out with Aunt Karen.

We went to the Freedom Center

Janey pushed Grandpa around.

He didn't seem to mind.

She didn't seem to want to give up that job.

While we were already in Kentucky...

We checked out the distillers of one of the best Kentucky Bourbons that I have ever tasted...

Maker's Mark

Bung.... hehhehheh

They really do hand dip the bottles in that wax stuff!

Then, we dipped our own bottles.

Father & Son bonding moment...

This always cracks me up when driving to or from the Cincy Airport (located in Kentucky...)

Honest Abe's recreated cabin in a big granite box

Dad, Mom and Karyna are in town.

So, of course we have to do the touristy things...

The Lincoln Birthplace Memorial was on that list of stuff to see.

So, a fake log cabin inside a big granite building. This is what the house he was born inside is thought to have looked like. Well, other than the big building built around it. And the window might have had greased paper to keep the outside outside, and it would have been full of smoke from the fireplace without a chimney... Stuff like that.

So, there's a big hole in the ground that has water in it that our 16'th president might have drunk from from birth to age 2.

As Karyna describes it, "There's a big hole in the ground, with scum on it. And there's water coming out of the scum!"

She's my cutie!

and a heck of a photographer...

More signs that my life rocks...

My job is very cool. I am borrowing a laptop and a projector tonight to show movies on a wall in our house. It seems that I can borrow anything as long as it will not be missed overnight. The Bossman wants to find some CFD software that we can run on our supercomputers between drug discovery runs to design stuff like exhaust headers for our cars. I drove around on my lawn-mower the other evening to make our grass shorter. Janey and I have some friends coming over tonight for some BBQ that we will be cooking on our (now working) new BBQ. While I do miss our families, moving to Ohio has been one of the better moves that Janey and I could make at this time in our lives.

not at work

So, I have been going out to different sales and educational seminars lately. The Microsoft had nothing to with what I am working on, nor did it have much of anything to do with anything we do at all. It was all about programming for Word. Today I'm at a seminar for administrating IBM Thinkpads and Think Centres. It does help a bit. But again, it's aimed slightly off from where I need stuff.

Anyways, as much as I love my job, I still like free days off....

summer??

The day is great, I'm wearing shorts, and I just found out that sandles will be acceptable. I'm not going to be abusing the sandles, but I will be wearing them often. t-shirt/shorts/sandels. What more could I want from a job.

Oh yeah. I do work, but not very hard, and most of it is messing around. today we got a new file server. "Peter, could you build this as Server '03 with raid 1 for the system disk and raid5 for the storage?" "Sure, no problem." Took 10 minutes to start the install. Walk away for 3 hours while it built the raid-5 array. 2.56Terrabytes... We need a bigger tape library. Right now we only have about 1.5 terrabyte native space on the tapes, and that leaves no room for multiple backups. Time to spend more money! I have a relaxed atmosphere with a techie boss and a nearly open budget as long as he can justify it to the techie director of our department and write good enough grants.
