New Project...

At work... I have a new project. I am building a web-page for our little IT group. It will have some common instructions. Such as use of the Terminal Server, or how to access the file server, or how to setup your e-mail. I have started taking screen shots that I can cut bits out of. I have also been culling screen-shots from different web sites that I can use.

More snow drivin'

Now I know why most cars in Cincy have dents and/or missing trim pieces. They expect to get into accidents in the snow. I'm of another school. I want to avoid contact with other cars at all costs. I would rather take an hour to drive 10 miles than hit other cars trying to do it quickly. Good God I hate Cincy drivers.

Janey had some work to do in the lab, so....

We went to the Vontz center today.

We took the truck because of the oft-mentioned summer only tires on the Miata.

Nothing sadder than a Miata on Azeni's in the snow.

At least there weren't many cars on the road.

We had the camera with us so while we were driving I suggested to Janey that she might take some pictures.

Burnett Woods looked very pretty while we were driving

Janey's parking pass only let us park on the top (Uncovered) floor of the parking garage, so we couldn't see the lines. We should have taken pics of it, but it was just the truck in a sea of white. Times like this that I sort of wish that she had taken the post at AECOM. It would have been a case of walk across the street to go to the lab.

The Vontz looks even cooler in the snow

Janey was dressed for the weather (Other than the shoes...)

I wasn't so much. But I stayed warm.

Note to self. Zipper-hoodie might not be quite enough protection from the wind. Time to get out the ski-jacket. And wear a light sweater underneat it. THe Sweater for warmth and the ski-jacket is just a shell, but it's good enough for keping out the wind.

a sort of impromptu date...

Woke up late. Ate breakfast around noon. Did Laundry. Watched Janey attempt to study. Around 2:30 we looked at each other and we both knew it was time to drive up north to look at our house. I quickly logged on to Walgreens to put in an refil order for Janey's no-baby-stickers so we could pick them up while we were in the area, then we took off.Attempted a different way in to Maineville and found a kick-butt "B" road that we will have to take some more in the summer. Top down looking at all the green that will be there. Very nice twisty road. The pickup wasn't the best vehicle for it, but I still don't have even all-season tires on the Miata (after bringing back the factory wheels when we came back from California) so the Azeni's weren't going anywhere when there's chances for snow.

Anyway, we left the apartment. Mostly just to get both of us out of the apartment and not in to work. We went up to the house site, and looked at our basement (That's still all it is...) and talked to our sales lady. Then we went down to the local Walgreens, then we went to Costco, followed by a quick side trip to HomeDepot. We found some wallpaper that we thought was cool, but we are waiting until we have the house so we can take the book to our house to look at colors on location before ordering the wall-paper. I even found a silvery and blue hot-rod flame border print that I want to put in the garage. Looks very very dude-ish.

Then we went out to dinner. We normally avoid that expense, but it seemed like a night that we should spend a bit of money on ourselves.

We tried a Pizza place that we had been smelling every time we were headed up to Maineville. It's called Pizza Tower. Best Pizza we've had in Cincy. Even better than the pizza we had while drunk up at Mt. Adams. I thought it was even better than the pizza we had over in Newport, Kentucky.

Then we went back to our apartment. Overall it was a very enjoyable day. I love my wife, I love my job, & I really really like it here in Cincy.

Whistling in the dark...

Somedays I will sit at my desk at work and I will suddenly start to whistle. It will be a real song, but somedays I won't know the words or where it came from. It's just a bit of a tune in my head.

A couple of days ago, I had this wonderful song pop up and I had to whistle it, but it took me about 4 hours to remember where it came from. It was the main theme from the movie "The Last Emperor". Then today, I was whistling the song from the wedding scene in the end of "The Muppets Take Manhattan".

Pop quiz. Does anybody remember the names of the 2 old guys that sit in the balcony in the Muppet Show that make fun of all the other characters? I remember it, but then again, I am a total movie and TV show nerd. They even refer to each other by their proper names when riding in a horse drawn carriage in the Central Park scene in Muppets take Manhattan. Here's a hint. One is named the same as a pen company, and the other is named the same as a salad.

Comments with your guesses will be expected.

Rachel's gone nuts!!!

I can't believe that my little siter has gone and bought a full sized SUV with 8 seatbelts. She's a single mom with only one kid!!!

Has she gone crazy?

Methinks that she has!

Anyways, if she feels the need for something that size, then at least she's gotten a Honda. As I write this, She and pop's are in the drive-through in ElPaso, Texas. It's a wonder if they make it back without one killing the other.

Janey pooh!

Snapped a pic last night. Janey says that it makes her nose look too flat.

Toys at work.

I love my job. This week more toys came in. Got this neat little flashlight buddy.

We keep getting more tool kits recently. We are also getting ready to build a few new PC's. The director of the department requested a new fast PC. He's going to end up with the second fastest PC that doesn't fall into our SuperComputer description. We have a couple of those. Like our 16 node SGI Altix 3000 system. Gotta love anything that has 16 CPUs all sharing one bank of RAM. Our new super computer should be in soon. It's a 40 node dual AMD Opteron setup with the 40 seperate motherboards connected on Infiniband (That's about 2x the speed of the standard FibreOptic networks. Should be around 4000bits/sec full duplex) and running a version of a Linux Beowolf cluster. We should be faster than anything in Ohio other than OSC's Cray.

I love my job.
